To be an Intern at Neterra

Name: Plamen Petrov
Major: Telecommunications
Organization: Technical University in Sofia, Bulgaria
Internship Term: Summer 2011
Neterra is a company that gives people chance to grow further in a positive and collaborative working environment. Neterra was the starting point of my professional development. Before that I spent all my energy and attention to the education. When I talked to my professors about the internship at Neterra, they gave me an advice to take this opportunity and told me that this a wonderful way to apply the accumulated knowledge in a real business environment. They said that in the future I should strive to derive the maximum knowledge out of each given opportunity.
At Neterra I was working on the daily tasks together with my colleagues from RF department, referred to the removal of radio-relay equipment, installation and setup of satellite dishes, configuration of receivers for digital TV DVB-S/DVB-S2 and installation and setup of VSAT terminal. I was responsible for setting up satellite dishes to receive signals from different satellites, including - Astra, Hellas Sat, Eurobird, Hotbird, Thor, Hispasat. This was my first real job and the lack of experience made it a little harder for me to adapt but the friendly attitude of my colleagues helped me though and made me feel part of the team. I did not encounter any difficulties at the work place even the assigned tasks seemed to me more interesting than tough.
At Neterra I accumulated a lot of knowledge in the field of radio and satellite communications. The Internship reveled to me the importance of harmonious relationships with colleagues at the work place and helped me to choose the direction in which I would like to continue my professional development. I feel more confident when applying the knowledge for radio and satellite communications. I performed well during the summer months and at the end Neterra made me a job offer to continue my further development in the company as part of the Video Services Operation Center. My desire is to work in the field of telecommunications and I will continue my education in the specialty while gaining professional experience at Neterra.
Name: Mustafa Reyhan Mustafa
Major: Telecommunications
Organization: Technical University in Sofia, Bulgaria
Internship Term: Summer 2011
Professional progress is on a pedestal at Neterra. Every day brings knowledge and skills. I am glad, that I chose the company for my internship, following the recommendations of my professors who always repeat that an internship is important and helpful step in the development of a young specialist. The practice builds up new knowledge on the boring theory of the textbooks.
At Neterra I was part of the Colocation Section in the Support Department. I was helping my colleagues in their daily tasks related to keeping track of the installed equipment, interpreting tables for internal connections and labeling them. Through the internship I learned a lot about the standards implemented in the data center, equipment wires, fiber optics, preparation and installation of communication racks, installation and setup of satellite receivers. When a problem occurred, we were working in a team. Each of us is giving suggestions and through that process we assemble a solution and finally we throw all the efforts to build it. What I really liked at Neterra was that people devote a lot time and attention to the interns and are willing to transfer the accumulated knowledge to us, less experienced.
At first it was a bit hard for me to get used to the work but my colleagues helped me a lot and quickly made me part of the team. At the beginning of the second month I was even dealing with some of the problems on my own. The internship helped me to decide in what direction to further develop myself - IP communications. Accumulated knowledge and experience at Neterra made me feel more self-confident. The last few months showed me the way I would like my career to take in future. Now I know how important is the teamwork and friendly attitude of the colleagues. I became attached to my colleagues and at times I miss them. I am glad that I was part of Neterra internship program. I would never forget this exciting and very useful experience.
Name: Mert Savaş
Major: Business Administration
Internship organization: Erasmus program at Özyeğin Üniversitesi
Internship Term: Summer 2010
I decided to complete my 3-month internship at Neterra within the scope of the Erasmus program. Having completed my internship, when I now look back, I am glad that I decided on them. At Neterra, I had the chance to work in very important departments such as international sales and corporate sales and to learn the business, literally, from the ground up. It was a real work experience, I had my own business cards, my own desk, my own phone and PC, which made me feel like a real employee. Moreover, despite my young age, I assumed a key responsibility in the sales strategy developed specifically for Turkish companies in Bulgaria and I had the chance to enhance my skills in taking up new responsibilities, developing new strategies and contacting customers. I was the one making the first contact with customers and arranging customer visits. These were my corporate responsibilities. Apart from this, I also assumed significant responsibilities in negotiations with the Turkish and Azerbaijan companies. I know that the experience I gained at Neterra will help me tremendously in my efforts to become a successful executive.
Last but not least, during my internship, I realized the hardships of adapting to a foreign country, and I understood the importance of overcoming adaptation problems and of enhancing communication skills in the business life. I felt more confident after hearing the feedback of my executives and colleagues that I adapted well. Now I have a clear idea of the career path I want to follow. Bearing in mind our instructors’ observation that we would eventually change around 6 sectors while building up our careers, my sole goal is now to further my career in international sales and marketing, whatever the sector is, and I continue working towards this end by improving myself each day through the opportunities offered by my university. However thanks to my internship experience, now I know for sure that I can work for any company I desire and live in anywhere around the world without suffering from adaptation problems.
